Little known fact about PS1, the most popular and iconic bag from the house of Proenza Schouler fashion house; the bag wasn’t supposed to be an “it” bag as per the designers McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. Let’s go back in 2008, when PS1 was introduced as an anonymous low-key accessory, or shall we travel much before in time to 2002? Yes! That would be more pertinent. So, the duo designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez met while studying in Parsons School of Design and joined hands for their senior thesis, which surprisingly was their first collection as Proenza Schouler. If you are wondering about the names, than this label of 2002 evolved by their mother’s maiden names.
For more surprise here, the PS1 design was the first bag designed by both of them. Initially PS1 was supposed to be a total under-the-radar beauty that was supposed to last forever and not an “it” bag. With no logo and no runway show, it was meant for the ones who didn’t want to attract many eyes to their bags. Then, McCollough and Lazaro gave these bags for test runs to a few female friends, who recognized it as a perfect vintage piece. And in 2010, this bag was discovered worldwide by the bloggers and the trendsetters, thus making it a new-fangled staple accessory.
Design
Let’s now head to its design; comprising of leather flap front, double zip, metal tab flip lock closure, front pocket, leather straps, top handle, removable and adjustable shoulder, distinctive structured shape and metal cuff with logo on front handle. Though the bag looks petite, it’s sure to make a style statement and not to forget its versatile character. The detachable and adjustable shoulder strap plus the handles allows the bag to be worn cross-body, over the shoulder, by handle or by the crook of the arm.
From day to night, the Proenza Schouler PS1 bag tops your must-have lists for a touch of edge to your sophisticated look. Today, you can find the design in every possible sizes, colors, shapes, styles as tote, bag, clutch, crossbody, purse, iPad case and so on.
